Kashgar Part 2

Trekking around Kashgar

sunny

Unfortunately we did not have internet access during our time in Kashgar. We switched hotels; the new hotel both nicer, cheaper and had far better food. The problem was and is that the internet did not work. Now that we are back in Urumqi we can get online but we may not be able to get online tomorrow when we start traveling down the Silk Road toward Xian.
Kashgar in an amazing city and I am very glad I scheduled 4 days for the city. It is a blend of cultures and times in the extreme west end of China. I am not sure the best way to describe everything we saw in Kashgar and it is my hope that pictures will help shed some light. I would have to write a small book to adequately present the fraction of Kashgar we visited. As I only write when I should be sleeping, I have not been keen on reliving the classic university experience of writing a paper on Sunday night. It is therefore very fortunate that we have such a prolific writer blogging about this trip. I will not try to give you every detail instead favoring to provide simple summaries and uploading pictures. I will upload what I can.

I only have time for one note so when eating in Kashgar one will probably be drawn to buy the freshly baked bread. It is my experience that you would buy the bread that looks like a small pizza crust and not the bread that looks incredibly like a bagel. If one chooses the later they will quickly finding it taking the consistency of a stale rock while the ‘pizza crust bread’ that we had kept longer was wonderfully seasoned. If one needs further incentives, the ‘pizza crust bread’ is usually more pleasing and is essentially the same price. In all cases it is devised to eat with yogurt or dipping or soaking the bread in tea or a soup before consumption. Another dish I would advise is a slow cooked rice dish where rice, vegetables and meat are slow cooked in a large pot and if done correctly can be incredibly good. I will write more later.
On the 16th we went up to Tianchi Mountain Lake which was very beautiful.

It is so painful because there is so much more I want to say about Kashgar and many more things I should say about our last two days in Urumqi. If I have time I will try to post some more and send out an email of observations and useful tips.
